Mended Hearts of Rochester, Chapter 50, attended the New York State Senator Jim Alesi Health Fair earlier this month.

Flu shots, hearing and cholesterol tests, blood pressure screenings, and lectures on how to stay healthy were just a few of the many things to do and see at the fair.

Chapter 50 provided information about Mended Hearts and the American Heart Association.

Larry Feldman said the chapter spoke to many people at the health fair and acquired names of several prospective member.

Families find Mended Little Hearts a tremendous source of information and support

24 10 2010

Mended Little Hearts has been featured in two stories across the nation recently, both reflecting on how important the organization is for parents of children with heart problems.

In the September edition of Health Source Magazine, Scott Tumlin talks about his four-year-old daughter who has already had three heart surgeries since birth. Scott and his wife, Shannon, joined Mended Little Hearts of Jacksonville, and recommends the organization for any parent going through a similar situation.

“They are a tremendous resource,” Scott told Health Source. “Be an advocate for your child, ask questions until you understand and feel comfortable. Finding out why the doctors are doing what they are doing brought us quite a bit of peace. There is always hope.”

This week, the Delta County Independent in Colorado, featured Blake and Danielle Bynum about how they became involved in Mended Little Hearts after doctors discovered that their son Rylan had a heart defect that went undetected for over four years.

Like the Bynum’s many families who have children with heart problems, find that Mended Little Hearts offers not only hope but also, when possible, financial assistance to help cover the enormous costs that even the most comprehensive insurance policy won’t cover.

Mended Hearts has a new look thanks to IMC2

12 10 2010

The Mended Hearts, Inc. has a fresh new look thanks IMC2 who provided its web design skills to us on a pro-bono basis.

Mended Hearts was one of several non-profits that applied for the web-support as part of the company’s bi-annual campaign, Weekend of Love 3, which was designed to help worthwhile causes. Mended Hearts was one of the few selected last May.

Over the course of the summer, the site has been overhauled with the following features:

  • Fresh, new look
  • More user friendly, intuitive navigation
  • A home-page button (see the arrow) that will allow for instant updates on activities of interest
  • More actual member photos instead of clip art, more member stories (see “Stories of Inspiration”)
  • Direct links to social networking capabilities to share with family and friends
  • Quick and easy links to popular social networking sites – Mended Hearts’ Facebook page, and Blog sites

Stay tuned for further updates as we strive to make our online community not only as member-friendly as possible, but also a site that the broader community of heart patients of all ages, their families and interested others will find worthy of a visit!
