Mobile Application Provides Live Video Stream of Critical Patient Situations

21 02 2012

In collaboration with AT&T, Washington Hospital Center developed CodeHeart, a mobile application (app) that provides a real-time video and audio stream that can be used in critical care situations.

Cardiologists using the mobile app can assess and prepare cardiac treatment before patients arrive at emergency rooms. While in transit, first responders can initiate real time audio/video sessions with hospital cardiologists allowing them to instantly view and assess a patient’s condition and electrocardiograms (ECG). Further, they can guide them on interim treatment and prepare the hospital and staff to provide appropriate care while patient is en route to the emergency room.

“When it comes to treating a patient who appears to be suffering from chest pain or other heart attack symptoms, every second counts. CodeHeart delivered from AT&T’s network helps us provide optimal care as quickly as possible and effectively treat every heart patient that comes to our facility.” said Lowell Satler, MD, director of Interventional Cardiology at the Hospital Center

CodeHeart is a highly secure mobile application that can be downloaded to mobile devices of authorized physicians and hospital workstations.  Additionally video content can be archived for later review if needed. Currently CodeHeart has been implemented in six hospital sites in the Washington D.C. area.
